With production and sourcing operations in Guatemala and Mexico, Pure Fresh is committed to quality, reliable execution, strong customer relationships, and exceptional service.

Position Summary

The U.S. Controller is responsible for leading Pure Fresh's accounting, financial reporting, grower and vendor settlements, inventory controls, claims management, profitability analysis, cash flow oversight, and internal controls. This role bridges Finance and Operations, ensuring that every shipment, customer, grower, and program is accurately reflected financially and that management has timely, reliable information for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead all accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Shipment & Program Profitability

  • Own the financial story of every shipment from original sales price through final net return.
  • Develop shipment-level profitability reports including original sales price, cases shipped, cases sold, freight, warehouse, packaging, repack, inspections, deductions, claims, disposal, commissions, and final net return.
  • Analyze profitability by customer, commodity, grower, origin, warehouse, season, and program.
  • Explain margin variances and identify operational drivers affecting profitability.
  • Provide recommendations before new customer or grower programs are approved.

Executive Reporting & Dashboards

  • Develop weekly and monthly executive dashboards covering sales, gross margin, net margin, cash position, AR/AP aging, customer deductions, freight, inventory exposure, and shipment profitability.
  • Provide ownership with actionable financial insights rather than only historical reporting.

Grower & Vendor Accounting

  • Manage grower settlements, advances, deductions, commissions, freight allocations, and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate intercompany reconciliations with Guatemala and Mexico.

Accounts Receivable & Customer Deductions

  • Monitor collections, investigate deductions, recover invalid claims, and improve cash conversion.

Accounts Payable & Expense Controls

  • Review vendor invoices, validate supporting documentation, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Imports, Inventory & Claims

  • Oversee import documentation, inventory reconciliations, receiving accuracy, claims, shrink, and product disposition accounting.

Strategic Business Partner

  • Partner with Sales, Procurement, Logistics, Operations, and Ownership to evaluate pricing, customer profitability, sourcing decisions, and financial risks.
  • Support pricing analysis to ensure target margins after freight, packaging, warehouse costs, commissions, and expected deductions.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely month-end close.
  • Financial statement accuracy.
  • Inventory reconciliation accuracy.
  • Shipment profitability reporting accuracy.
  • Customer deduction recovery.
  • Cash flow forecast accuracy.
  • Gross and net margin performance.
  • Working capital management.
  • Program profitability.
  • Implementation of process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
  • Experience in fresh produce, agriculture, food distribution, or perishables strongly preferred
  • Experience with FAMOUS Software is strongly preferred.
  • Strong Excel, ERP, accounting, and inventory system skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • This job description is not intended to contain a comprehensive list of all duties, responsibilities, or activities required for this position.
  • Duties and responsibilities may change based on business needs.
