Job Description:
This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Science and Technology and is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating a range of responsive educational curricula and training programs within the food safety, science and technology fields. This position will conduct focused training and assessments in the area of food safety for Western Growers members. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the development, management, and expansion of the Science and Technology division’s training and consultation services.

Responsibilities & Duties:
- Develop training curriculum, applicable job aids, and guides, and present them in the most efficient and effective manner possible (online and in-person training).
- Oversee the creation and update of training materials relative to content directly related to food safety and compliance.
- Work with the Assistant Vice President of Science and Technology and provide input to training strategy and the development of specific training development plans by creating a system to evaluate the quality, pricing, and underlying costs of training courses and implement improvements.
- Deliver training promptly to address WG member needs in a responsive manner, this may require extensive travel.•Work with WG’s Marketing and Communications staff to advertise training services to members.
- Develop and maintain a list of training services and fees when applicable.
- Conduct food safety and training assessments to address Western Growers (WG) members’ needs.
- Develop professional relationships with member company stakeholders and act as a resource forquestions and/or issues, as well as respond to “just-in-time” training needs.
- When appropriate and applicable, confer with members by telephone or in person (individual orgroup) in order to provide consultative services to members about their food safety needs, questions,and other requests.
- Work with WG’s Marketing and Communications staff to advertise consultative services to members.
- Develop and maintain a list of consulting services and fees.
- Data Management & Reporting
- Prepare Western Growers Science & Technology Committee training/consulting plans, goals andobjectives, and training/outcome reports for committee meetings.
- Compile an annual training calendar consisting of monthly webinars, in person workshops, videotraining and presentations.
- Provide content for the Food Safety, Science and Technology Snapshot/newsletter and publish whitepapers on key food safety topics. Work with marketing to publicize content through WG’s website,magazine, social media, Linked, etc.
- Track all member training details in a contact management system detailing reason for the training,registration, attendance and performance reviews.
- Schedule course follow-ups as appropriate to evaluate the success of the training program.
- Provide monthly reports to management documenting training details and outcomes. Iftraining/consulting is fee-based work with WG’s Accounting staff to track income/expenses andquantity financial impact (ROI) on individual members and on Western Growers.

- Serve as a WG representative on industry food safety working groups when the Assistant Vice President of Science and Technology is not available.
- Maintain a clean DMV record and the ability to travel to locations throughout the U.S. (mainly California, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado) up to 50% of the time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, agriculture, microbiology or a related field and four (4) to six (6)years of consulting and/or training work experience in the produce industry preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Hazard Analysis Critical ControlPoint (HACCP), Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and industry recognized programs such as the LeafyGreen Marketing Agreement (LGMA) as well as Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)-RecognizedCertification bodies such as Global G.A.P., SQF Institute and Primus GFS.
- Strong working knowledge of standard food safety procedures, checklists, assessments and otherapplicable food safety program documents.
- Advanced understanding of microbiological sampling protocols, procedures, and ability to implementmicrobial sampling and environmental monitoring programs is preferred.
- Advanced understanding of key science and technology issues impacting the produce industry.
- Moderate knowledge of the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model for workforce training anddevelopment.
- Proficient in developing and delivering training programs and materials for adult learners.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with members and employeeswith varying experience and education levels.
- Exceptional fluency in speaking, reading, and writing both English and Spanish and a solidunderstanding of cultural nuances of the Spanish language when translating written material.
- Highly proficient in word-processing, presentation, spreadsheet and other various software that leadsto the development of job aids, training material/content for instructor lead or web based training.
- Approved Lead trainer for the Produce Safety Rule and Preventive Controls Rule required, Lead Trainerfor Foreign Supplier Verification Program a plus.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team.
- Verifiable, clean DMV record and the ability to travel to various locations throughout the U.S. (mainlyCalifornia, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado) up to 50% of the time.
