Gee Whiz, part of the Auvil Fruit family of companies, is a premium grower and producer of Washington apples and cherries sold under the highly regarded Gee Whiz brand.
We are seeking a full-time SQF Practitioner to join our growing company in Orondo, WA.
As a key member of the Food Safety team, the SQF Practitioner is responsible for keeping Gee Whiz ll and Auvil Custom Farming in compliance with SQF, FSMA, and HACCP. This person is responsible for manual upkeep, audits, and inspections of production and orchard facilities, and ranches. The SQF Practitioner will foster a culture of food safety and safety throughout the Auvil organization in a positive and friendly manner, through training and interaction. They will also support the other members of the Food Safety team developing and maintaining quality training, education, and records.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with packing and orchard staff and management to ensure that controls, investigations, inspections, and documentation are being completed timely and accurately.
- Lead Food Safety meetings/trainings and spot inspections in the facilities and orchards while employees are working. Coach Team Members and Supervisors as necessary.
- Maintain communication with Supervisors to ensure clarity of intent and clarity of desired outcomes.
- Prepare, distribute and/or post all food safety notices, manuals, informational sheets, records, etc.

Work Environment: This position may require working in/being exposed to a variety of environments including warehouses, cold storage facilities, mechanic shops and orchards.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift a standard 42 lb. box of apples, climb stairs, bending, or standing on a stool as necessary.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma OR GED
- SQF Practitioner Certification
- 1-2 years relevant experience in Food Safety and Occupational Safety
- HACCP certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Internal Audit certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Must be able to read, speak, and comprehend English
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

- Valid WA State Driver License
- Current motor vehicle insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
Travel: This position may require up to 20% travel. Most travel is within the local area and does not require overnight stays. Occasionally, travel outside the local area and overnight stays will be required.
