Job Description: 

We are a large and established fresh produce company, looking for a Farming Manager to lead our farming team in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California.

The successful candidate will oversee the entire Farming Operation and directly report to the organization's General Manager. This individual will work directly with Harvesting, Production, Shipping, Sales, Accounting, Human Resources and Food Safety / Compliance.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to direct reports to ensure all farming operations such as ground prep, planting, cultivating, irrigating, fertility and pest control applications lead to commodities being grown with the best quality at the highest yield and lowest cost.
  • Evaluate current farming practices and make recommendations based on the results of the evaluation to drive improvement in production yield, quality and/or cost control.
  • Ensure crop rotations and timing practices lead to the best utilization of land for scheduling purposes.
  • Seek and incorporate, as economically justified, new technologies and capabilities into daily operations to improve growing operations.
  • Identify, collect, analyze and report on meaningful data supporting efforts leading to efficient operations, maximized yields and/or improved quality.
  • Effectively communicate with Company Leadership, Management, Employees, Suppliers and anyone else involved with ensuring Farming Success.
  • Coordinate with the General Manager and the Management team in developing schedules, production estimates and crop budgets.
  • Ensure proper safety protocols are followed by all employees and monthly safety meetings are implemented and attended.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a row crop farming company leadership role
  • Pest Control Advisor license is preferred but not required
  • A 4-year degree in an Ag or Ag related program or 5 years of related job experience
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work a full agricultural schedule
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong analytical/numbers skills and problem-solving capabilities
