Job Description: 

Markon is seeking a Regional Buyer to join their team.

SUMMARY:

Develop and help through regional buying from Texas to the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast exercises a high-level commodity expertise and negotiation and problem-solving ability within the assigned commodity Team. Continually strives to meet the needs and expectations of Markon’s Member-Distributors and to provide them with a competitive edge.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as may be assigned:

Product Management:

  • Must possess good understanding of grower/shipper base east of the Mississippi River with high concentration in the Southeast, but also good knowledge of Eastern Seaboard and the Midwest
  • Must have truck vegetable, tomato, regional leafy greens and other regional produce background
  • Supported by Markon Salinas office for PO processing and marketing support
  • Markon office is hub for activity
  • Will interface daily with BEK, GFS/NuProduce/Fresh Start and Markon office
  • Programs will meet or exceed current member-operated programs in food safety, quality, cost and performance
  • Quarterly visits to Markon HQ, BEK and GFS/NuProduce/Fresh Start
  • Improve market share and verify through Circana
  • Lower fob cost--improve return to member
  • Increase Markon branded market share
  • Increase branded presence in region
  • Help establish Markon as a coast-to-coast leader
  • Improve Markon regional food safety quality
  • Markon voice and advocate at shows and regional events
  • Develop and improve grower relationships
  • Work with members and Markon marketing for local and regional marketing programs
  • Helps spread and validate Markon's food safety message

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
 
Education and/or Experience:

  • Any combination of education and experience allowing for the successful completion of the essential functions.
  • 2-3 years of prior experience working with shippers preferably with Tomato and Bell Peppers.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • Remote in Southeast US
  • The ideal candidate will be located in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee or Alabama.

TRAVEL:

Moderate-potentially heavy travel regionally and 1-2 times per year nationally
