The Opportunity
We are seeking a Grower Accountant / Financial Analyst to join our team in Madera, CA and be responsible for the financial management, reporting, and analysis of nut tree agricultural operations. This isn't a "sit behind a desk and crunch numbers" role; it is a dynamic position that bridges the gap between field operations and long-term profitability. You will be the architect of our grower settlements and the lead analyst for orchard economics.
Salary Range: $75,000 – $100,000 annually (commensurate with experience and agricultural background).
Responsibilities
Grower & Agricultural Accounting
- Be the Source of Truth: Maintain meticulous records by ranch, block, and variety.
- Manage Settlements: Prepare and review grower settlements, managing everything from production costs and assessments to advances and final payouts.
- Cost Allocation: Track and distribute direct and indirect farming costs, including labor, water, and equipment.
Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Orchard Economics: Track development and immature tree costs according to GAAP.
- Harvest Oversight: Reconcile production volumes and oversee agricultural inventory and yield reporting.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Strategic Insights: Deliver monthly financial statements and variance analysis that tell the story behind the numbers.
- Profitability Modeling: Develop budgets and seasonal cash flow models to analyze trends in labor, yield, and input costs.
Systems & Compliance
- ERP Power User: Act as the key finance lead for our agricultural ERP system, driving data integrity and process automation.
- Internal Controls: Ensure GAAP compliance and support audits, tax prep, and lender reporting.
What You Bring to the Table
The Essentials:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Ag-Business, or a related field.
- Experience: 4+ years of professional accounting or cost accounting experience.
- Tech Savvy: Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, cost models) and comfort with ERP systems.
- Communication: The ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders and field managers.
Preferred:
- Direct experience in Agricultural Accounting (specifically with almonds, pistachios, or walnuts).
- Deep knowledge of crop-year accounting and orchard cost structures.
- A track record of improving or automating financial reporting processes.
