JOB FILLED - Spray Supervisor

Job Description: 

Under the supervision of the production coordinator, you will plan, organize, direct and control pesticide spraying operations and fertilizer applications according to the standards set by the agronomist and optimally. You will have to complete, check the reports of your department. You will have to manage the employees under your supervision. In addition, you will have to perform a sound management of the equipment / equipment of his department. Finally, you will have to respect and ensure compliance with OHS policies and procedures, good agricultural practices and food safety.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Plan, organize, direct and control pesticide spraying operations and fertilizer applications according to the standards set by the agronomist and optimally:

  • Perform a daily field visit to assess the quality of fields and operations performed the day before and plan the work to be done
  • Determine, in collaboration with the agronomist, the type of spray products to be used according to the specific problems encountered in the fields
  • Plan and prioritize the weekly and daily spraying operations to be carried out according to the phyto-protection plan and the level of infestation and communicate them to his team
  • Ensure regular communication with the supervisors of sowing, irrigation and harvesting in the management of spraying operations (false seeding, sowing, preparation for harvest, etc.)
  • Prepare the mix recipes of the spray products, generate the sequence of work for each operator and validate the completed work in Data Trace
  • Monitor spray applications and compliance with reported dosages
  • Display the re-entry dates to the fields
  • Manage the movement of spray equipment from one farm to another
  • Provide support to team members in the execution of their work as needed and ensure deadlines are met
  • Attend weekly planning meetings with the Veg Pro team and communicate relevant information to their team
  • Resolve operational issues that may arise during the day and communicate any irregular situation to the production coordinator
  • Recommend work methods or equipment to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of spraying operations
  • Complete and verify the reports of The Spray Department.

Manage employees under supervision:

  • Check and approve the hours of Mexican employees and/or staff
  • Organize the integration of new employees and participate in them
  • Ensure that employees are properly trained
  • Mobilize all employees
  • Evaluate and ensure the development of employee skills
  • Maintain discipline and follow up with the production coordinator
  • Ensure the application of company policies and procedures (overtime, absences, etc.).

Perform a sound management of the material/equipment of the Spray Department:

  • Write work orders during mechanical breakdowns and follow up
  • Ensure that the equipment used is properly calibrated at all times and see the mechanical review of equipment, tractors and control systems (computers on tractors, GPS calibration and auto-guiding systems)
  • Make weekly pesticide purchases as often as necessary
  • Control inventories and produce a balance sheet of products consumed and establish cost per acre and crop

Respect and ensure compliance with OHS policies and procedures, good agricultural practices and food safety:

  • Keep your work environment clean and safe
  • Train employees on good practices and work procedures and ensure that they work safely, respect the established dress code and wear mandatory protective equipment
  • Report any dangerous situation or potential contamination to the immediate superior
  • Write work injury reports and participate in investigations as needed
Skills: 
  • High School/College studies in horticultural production and environmental technology, farm management and operation or other relevant training. A lack of a degree can be compensated by sufficient experience
  • Experience of 3-5 years relevant in a similar position, ideally in market gardening
  • Relevant experience in personnel management
  • Proficiency in oral and written English
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
