JOB FILLED - Quality Assurance Supervisor

Job Description: 
The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for the QA and Sanitation Department programs and employees. The supervisor is expected to ensure that the food safety system at the plant is properly written, documented, and implemented - thus ensuring regulatory compliance (HACCP, FDA, SQF, FSMA, GHP) and the production of safe, quality, and wholesome produce.

Requirements: 
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Food Science, or other relevant discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience in a produce or food processing environment.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Positive communication and Human Relations skills.Must be able to handle many tasks at one time keeping positive attitude toward employees while enforcing company policies.
  • Being bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Successful experience with GFSI (SQF), FDA, USDA GHP, etc. audits.
  • Being certified as an SQF Practitioner is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficient skills in Microsoft Office, as well as prove to be a quick learner of other computer programs.
  • Expert knowledge developing/implementing SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP, and GHP’s.
  • Must be familiar with environmental (microbiological) requirements/testing procedures.
  • Must be able to quickly learn the company’s traceability system, while understanding the rudimentary method of traceability at the company.
  • Experience in the produce industry is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • The QA Supervisor supervises QA Assistants, Technicians, Sanitation Supervisors, and Sanitation employees.
  • The QA Supervisor must work cohesively with Human Resources to perform tasks including hiring, training, counseling, and recommending discharge when necessary for the QA department.
  • Must be a hands-on Supervisor that is able to train and assist the QA and Sanitation staff.
  • The QA Supervisor ensures that all Food Safety programs are functioning as designed, being followed by all appropriate personnel, and being correctly documented.  Maintaining that all programs in place are valid and follow the requirements set by regulatory establishments and auditing bodies.
  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; helping implement food and employee safe production procedures while meeting quality and customer service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing positive change.
  • The QA Supervisor must be able to quickly, yet thoroughly, investigate a product/process failure to determine the root cause as well as what corrective actions are needed. Effectively assess when there are deviations from standards or processes and make corrections.
  • The QA Supervisor must be thoroughly versed in 3rd party Food Safety Audits, specifically SQF, as well as be prepared to be the primary contact for all audit events.
  • The QA Supervisor must quickly gain an understanding of all our safety policies and procedures and be able to express those policies to others as needed.
  • Constantly updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management. Attends trainings to stay current in all aspects of quality assurance, participates in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances department and company reputation by being recognized in industry functions and creating new, industry ground breaking processes and procedures. Constantly trying to improve the department and the company.
  • The QA Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the cleanliness of the packing room is maintained.
  • The QA Supervisor must work collaboratively with the other Supervisors to accomplish the goals of the department.
  • Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analysis, identifying critical control points and preventative measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions and verification procedures. 
  • Validate food safety tasks being performed are done correctly.
  • Needs to report, promptly, food safety hazards and areas of concern and safety hazards to the Maintenance Department when needed.
  • Schedule monthly meetings with the QA, Operations and Sanitation departments to discuss current issues, solutions, and programs relevant to the QA department.
  • Manage all sanitation jobs and employees. Create schedules for the tasks to be done and oversee that they are being done correctly.
