Job Description: 

This is an exciting opportunity to purchase produce for our company headquartered in South Florida and distributing throughout the Southeast.

You will support produce programs across several different business segments and be responsible for sourcing your designated category. This may include organic and/or conventional products from local, domestic, and international sources. This person will be responsible for the category management in its entirety, from purchase, to inventory levels and shrink.

  • 3 years + purchasing experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with shippers to ensure consistent supplies of the highest quality produce at a competitive cost. Strong negotiating skills.
  • Analyze sales and inventory data to produce accurate replenishment orders and maintain the designated fill ratio’s, within an established timeframe.
  • Maintain the highest of quality standards and specification while working with the warehouse team on any product issues that may arise.
  • Work in conjunction with sales department to meet customer needs. Ability to execute daily, weekly and seasonal produce procurement strategies.
  • Assist and work with the buying team on a day to day basis for the success of the entire buying office.
  • Maintain strong communication with overall operations and leadership. Ability to effectively correspond verbally, in writing and in an email intense environment
  • Have a good familiarity with agriculture products, seasonality and product origins.
  • Strong decision maker and able to react quickly to ever-changing market conditions.
  • Understanding of produce terminology, PACA, USDA guidelines and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to fluently read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Good organizational skills including follow through and attention to detail. Must be able to work productively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use MS Office, Excel and ability to learn our own in house purchasing program. The ability to multitask on phone, computer and in person simultaneously.
  • Be able to analyze, comprehend and interpret a multitude of data to make sound purchasing decisions.
  • Flexibility to work in varying temperatures and warehouse conditions.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs. as needed in a refrigerated environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including a few hours on weekends and possibly holidays.
  • A team player, able to work with a team oriented approach to strategizing and problem solving. With a strong work ethic, able to lead by example and drive to achieve excellence.
