The Assistant Farm Manager will be responsible for providing support to the Cuyama Farm Manager.  Areas of responsibility include; delegating tasks to team members, planting, harvesting, fertilizing carrots, and ensuring that all employees are following safety regulations. The successful candidate will hold responsibility for executing daily/weekly production schedule for optimal efficiencies

Requirements: 
  • Work will be conducted in office, shop and farm areas
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for extended period of time
  • Environmental exposure-seasonal outdoor temperatures
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provide coaching, support, and direction to members of a work team
  • Provide business and technical leadership support as necessary to ensure both the department and facility meet and/or exceed goals in critical success areas (Cost/Quality, Sanitation, System Utilization, and Health/Safety/Environment)
  • Conduct regular team meetings which include effective communication of organizational and policy changes
  • Demonstrates high level of problem solving for agricultural issues, employee issues, capital improvements, and overall business improvements
  • Mentors supervisors towards excellent managerial skills and development
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Supports and coordinates farm activities such as planting and harvesting carrots, fertilizing carrots, and maintaining facilities and equipment
  • Inspects fields and equipment to ensure compliance and to determine maintenance and repair requirements
  • Prepares farm activity reports for evaluation by management or owner
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills: 
  • Ability to provide leadership by strong decision-making skills and the integrity involved with those decisions
  • Ability to organize, participate and facilitate groups for completing of departmental goals
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must have excellent organizational skills to work efficiently
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials
  • Good to excellent grammar and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to undertake manual and heavy work
  • Ability to cope with the physical demands of the job
Qualifications: 

MINIMUM:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Agriculture, Nutritional Science, Management, or related field
  • Valid California Driver License and clean driving record
  • Bilingual in Spanish

 
PREFERRED:

  • 1-3 years of managerial experience in farming environment
  • 1-3 years of experience providing leadership to a diverse workforce
  • California Pest Control Advisor License (PCA) and/or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA)
