The Sales Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day sales process and activities to ensure a high level of business revenue and sustained growth, with a focus on profitability for the company and our grower partners.
The Sales Manager will be responsible for training, coaching, and evaluating sales department team members.
The Sales Manager will always set a positive, productive, and professional tone, while also mentoring sales representatives, managing the team’s performance, continuously evaluating and evolving processes to ensure efficiency and best possible results.
The role also involves a heavy emphasis on proactively analyzing sales data, current market conditions, sales program opportunities, and the correlation of both incoming and on hand supply with sales, to promote the best-case outcome for the company and our growers.
This involves a clear focus on every aspect of the movement of our fruit both before and after we receive it at our warehouses on both coasts, and the responsibility to report out regularly on all market and performance dynamics related to the sale of our fruit. This is a cross functional management position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- The Sales Manager will play a pro-active role in cultivating the “Awe Sum culture” that attracts and retains high performers to ensure individual performance levels and team performance for the greater good of the company, our growers, and our customer base.
- Support leadership in creating a Create a “Team” environment by utilizing open and honest communications, continuous feedback, and recognition for a job well done as well as to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Leadership of the day-to-day team and functions including active selling with a focus on growth, support in all daily operations, accountability, regular analysis of pre-planned and day to day sales performance and top-level execution
- Accountable to understanding of the life cycle of each of our commodities, working cross functionally to ensure each item moves through our system in a manner consistent with the condition of our fruit on hand in the coolers.
- Support the VP in leading regular meetings with Sales Team and all relevant departments, daily, if necessary, with particular focus on inventory turns goals and actual movement, customer program movement, and overall market performance.
- Regularly analyze, understand, and communicate both market dynamics and sales performance, particularly if related to potential future impact on grower returns.
- Develop and implement KPIs to monitor and evaluate the performance of our Sales Team, both as a group and on an individual basis, with a strong focus on goal setting.
- Working in partnership with our Quality Control, Operations and Accounting Teams, monitor KPIs consistent with overall company dashboard goals around the movement of fruit, timely settlement of accounts, average sale price, profitable return to our grower and other objectives as agreed upon by our Management Team.
- Analyze and understand sales and performance data on a weekly basis and more often as needed, reporting out proactively with any perceived challenges or opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain a strong bridge between sales and our supply and business development plans, setting us up for optimal and organized sales execution strategy.
- Actively promote Awe Sum (the company and the brand) as an ongoing leader in the Organic trade, highlighting our commitment to Awe Sum tasting, sustainably grown, and produced organic fruit.
- Promote our ongoing commitment to social impact programs such as Fair Trade and cutting edge organic growing practices that build and maintain the life of the soil and environment where our fruit is grown.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Marketing, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 10 years related experience.
- Produce Sales experience with knowledge and experience in Organics highly desirable.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft, Word, and Excel, and produce industry software.
- A working knowledge of FAMOUS software is a plus but not required.
- Excellent and professional communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with and lead a team; flexible to changing priorities.
- Ability to set and meet required timelines and or manage and meet timelines set by other Team Managers.
