Training Development Specialist

Job Description: 

The California Strawberry Commission seeks a Training Development Specialist to develop and deliver grower education programs for California Strawberry growers and their employees in the areas of irrigation and pest management practices, food safety and regulatory compliance. The specialist will work with other members of a grower education team to develop and deliver training programs appropriate to the unique learning needs of current industry members that take into account their diversity of language, educational background and adult learning principles. The California Strawberry Commission (CSC) currently offers an award winning food safety education program comprised of five distinct classes. The education program emphasizes participatory learning methods designed for adult learners to achieve identified learning objectives. The CSC will be expanding its work in education to other areas of benefit to growers and their employees.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and deliver participatory adult education programs for CA strawberry growers in the areas of pest, nutrient and water management practices, food safety and regulatory compliance
  • Take leadership in managing the day to day function of the educational programs listed above
  • Generate creative training plans appropriate to our unique agricultural audience and industry needs
  • Perform quality control of existing and developing training classes offered throughout the year by critically reviewing and revising training plans as necessary
  • Integrate learning technologies appropriate to our audience into future and existing training programs
  • Document achievement of learning objectives by training participants, on-farm adoption of practices taught within training programs, and overall impact of education program on industry
  • Perform onsite logistics for training programs
  • Assist other departments of the CSC on projects as needed
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, education or agricultural related field
Skills: 
  • Bilingual Spanish and English (Fluency required)
  • At least 3 years’ experience developing and delivering adult education programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook
Qualifications: 
  • A passion for developing and conducting adult education programs
  • Ability to participate as a trainer in multiple training programs on agriculture related topics
  • Ability to travel and conduct training events in various locations throughout California annually
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team environment with multiple team members in multiple locations
  • Ability to communicate professionally with industry members and fellow staff
  • Possess a driver’s license
