The Director of Food Safety will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and executing a robust food safety program, ensuring compliance with customer, company, and regulatory standards, including the Food Safety Modernization Act and Safe Foods For Canadians regulations. This role encompasses the development, maintenance, and enhancement of systems for securing approvals from producers, packers, warehouses, and service providers. It also involves actively monitoring performance and conducting audits. Continuous collaboration with supply chain partners is vital to drive improvements in products, processes, and systems, ultimately reducing business risk through prevention-focused food safety programs.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and execute food safety strategy and goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement of the food safety management system.
  • Oversee compliance with FDA, USDA, EPA, CFIA, and other regulations.
  • Ensure food safety compliance of all supplier exporters and service providers.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate food safety policies and procedures.
  • Guide GFSI scheme compliance.
  •  
  • Maintain and enrich FSVP and PCP programs.
  • Develop food safety metrics and key process indicators.
  • Enhance supplier management for compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze food safety data and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Periodically review product recall protocol and conduct mock recalls.
  • Maintain USDA organic certification.
  • Participate in internal and external food safety audits.
  • Track regulatory requirements and advancements in food safety technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and manage relationships.
  • Address potential concerns with food safety with suppliers and customers.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and expertise in food safety.
  • Offer technical support to sales, procurement, and operations teams.
  • Manage customer sustainability and social conduct requirements in collaboration with sales and procurement teams.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Microbiology, or a related science program.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of five years of comprehensive food safety program management experience.
  • Hold relevant certifications in HACCP, FSVP, Produce Safety, GlobalGAP, BRC, PrimusGFS, and PCQI.
  • Specialized knowledge in FSMA, specifically FSVP and Produce Safety.
  • Familiarity with CFIA, specifically SFCR requirements.
  • Exhibit proficiency in document management systems, including Azzule, ReposiTrak, and FoodLogiq.
  • Showcase a commitment to sustainability, encompassing social, ethical, and environmental considerations
