Job Description: 

A leading Vegetable Grower/Shipper is seeking an experienced sales individual to join our successful sales team in Salinas, CA.

The right candidate must deliver results, be solution driven, able to work both independently and with team members, develop new business opportunities, manage customer accounts, and have experience in supply management.

As the Commodity Sales Manager your key responsibilities and skills:

  • Maintain a high degree of communication between, customers, operations, and internal sales teams
  • Commodity management, production planning and coordination
  • Follow efficient and effective sales and operations processes, policies, and procedures
  • Efficiently process, update and track sales orders from beginning to close
  • Maintain a high understanding of market trends and customer needs
  • Active role in sales and forecasting
  • Closely monitor markets and competition; maintain a leading‐edge awareness of market trends in the produce industry
  • Contribute to daily sales operations and product allocation, while modeling optimum communication with all other departments (quality control, production, and shipping)
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with current and future customers that reflect a reputation for professional communications, service, integrity, and reliability
  • Initiate, develop and execute sales for designated accounts across total product offerings
  • Increase sales through effective business development and establish/maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers, promoting customer loyalty, satisfaction, and profitable growth
  • Seek out new accounts and revenue generating opportunities

Minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years in sales handling a variety of vegetable commodities, both conventional and organic
  • Knowledge and experience with PACA rules and how to manage business accordingly
  • Understand overall company sales priorities and work in a collaborative way to support the highest overall company profitability
  • Able to sell/develop new business as well as manage accounts
  • General understanding of receivables and deductions
  • Ability to navigate and learn new sales/inventory software programs
  • Proven track record meeting quotas, closing deals, and handling multiple projects
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Critical thinker with strong organizational, problem‐solving, and analytical skills
  • Must have excellent phone skills/bilingual a plus but not required

Additional Skills:

  • Excel skills needed and knowledge of Famous software preferred
  • Properly manage customer’s expectations
  • Effective and solid interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Comfortable sharing new ideas and visions to expand company sales
  • Ability to promote a positive image of the company’s vision, mission, and values
  • Good sense of humor a must
