We are seeking an experienced Produce Accountant in Irvine, CA to manage day-to-day accounting activities for a produce operation, ensuring accurate financial records, supporting inventory and cost tracking, and maintaining vendor and customer account integrity. This role requires attention to detail, an understanding of perishable inventory, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting processes in Famous Software/ Produce Plan.
- Partner with operations to monitor and manage production and purchasing costs.
- Analyze labor, overhead, and material costs; deliver detailed reports and variance analyses.
- Oversee grower settlements and resolve inter-company discrepancies to ensure accurate balances.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
- Assist the Corporate Controller with management reports and financial summaries.
- Process and review AP/AR transactions with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor outstanding transactions to support effective cash flow management.
- Generate financial reports for leadership review and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting standards.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to support tax planning and minimize exposure.
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Coordinate with cross-functional departments, including operations, logistics, and procurement—to gather financial data and ensure alignment on business objectives.
- Translate complex financial information into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
- Promote collaboration across departments to streamline processes, improve cost efficiency, and support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure team goals are aligned with organizational priorities, providing clear direction and performance feedback.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, including cost accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience with Famous Software or Produce Plan is highly preferred.
- Background in the produce industry.
- Bilingual in Spanish (read/write) is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting standards.
- Proven ability to manage accounting functions in a large organization.
- Ability to do light physical activity including lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, and reaching.
- Requires in-person work Monday - Friday. Based out of Irvine, CA with occasional visits to warehouses and cold storage areas.
Base Pay: $80,000 to $110,000 per year or more, depending on experience.
