Job Description: 

Van Solkema Produce Inc. is seeking a seasoned Sales Representative to join our fast growing and dynamic sales team. Strong FOB Sales experience with onions is preferred. Under general direction of the Sales Manager, this individual will work in a fast-paced and consistently changing FOB Sales Team Environment. 

Our headquarters is based just outside of Grand Rapids Michigan. We have another office is Georgia. Our first preference is to have this person based at our Michigan headquarters. However, if the right person came along and wanted to work from our Georgia office, we will strongly consider that option too.

Position Reports to: 
Sales Manager
Requirements: 
  • 10+ Years of produce experience, including at least 7 years in FOB sales.
  • Have a complete understanding of current market trends.
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships and provide the best possible service to meet the customer’ needs.
  • Has strong relationships within the Retail, Wholesale, and Foodservice markets.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Pursue and develop new customer accounts.
  • Utilizes team building and communication skills to create strong department and company-wide internal alignment.
  • Process, update and track sales orders.
  • Accurately distribute information to the company, growers, and customers upon request.
  • Play an active role in sales and sales forecasting.
  • Have a complete understanding of current market trends.
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships and provides the best possible service to meet the customer’ needs.
  • Must have a good understanding of PACA regulations.
  • Must be able to accurately gauge national and regional market conditions.
  • Responsible for maximizing returns inherent to the specific commodities he/she sells and/or manages, when applicable.
  • Takes indirect direction and requests from other internal departments as well as communicates with all departments, when applicable.
Education: 
  • B.A. in Bussiness Adminsitration, Marketing, or Sales preferable.
Skills: 
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Able to communicate properly through oral and written means.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Computer literate with the ability to utilize company systems and procedures while striving for 100% transaction accuracy.
  • Not afraid to ask questions.
Ideal Candidate: 
  • Has the experience and established customer base to sell to Retail Chains, Wholesale, and Foodservice.
  • Is able bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to our rapidly growing company. 
Qualifications: 
  • 7 years experience in FOB sales.
  • Must have an established customer base
