JOB FILLED - Bird Dog / Quality Control

Job Description: 
PURPOSE
This position has a significant and direct impact on RJO’s ability to execute their strategy with our clients on a day-to-day basis. Inspects and grades product at shipping points according to marketing specifications by performing the following duties.
 
As such he/she will be responsible for assisting the RJO quality control team in achieving consumer satisfaction as evidenced through:
  • Optimized sales and business results for our clients
  • Optimized sales and profit results for RJO.
He/she will accomplish this by:
  • Providing accurate and timely product inspection information
  • Representing RJO’s clients (eyes and ears) to ensure the right products are shipped
  • Constantly looking for ways to improve RJO’s inspection and service capability
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
Inspection Execution
  • Maintains RJO standards of professionalism with all supplier, shipper partners
  • Assists in the development of shipper/grower performance standards and evaluations
  • Works with grower / shippers to ensure product inspected is shipped. Inspects product prior to shipment as appropriate
  • Travels to grower / shipper / port locations and inspects product prior to shipment
  • Prepares product inspection reports including color, smoothness, texture, eatability of fruit, etc
  • Looks at, feels, and smells product, as required by its nature, to determine grade and identify substandard products
  • Oversees loading and checks orders to ensure that it is accurate as per specifications
  • Captures product information / photographs fruit - transfers information / image to computer for use by Procurement Specialists
  • Duties as assigned by RJO

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year produce experience preferred.
  
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from owners, managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to speak fluent Spanish preferred. Bilingual (English / Spanish).
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
