The Quality Manager is part of the facility management team and collaboratively supports the company strategic plan. The Quality Manager is responsible for Food Safety and Quality through planning, coordinating, training, and implementing the food safety and quality programs in all areas of the Portland facility. The Quality Manager manages and actively participates in the necessary work within several areas of the warehouse and prepared foods departments to ensure all food safety and product quality metrics are continually met. Responsible for managing labor costs and expenses to meet department goals.

What you'll do...

Food Safety:

  • Maintain full knowledge of current food safety plans
  • Responsible for daily implementation and documentation of all food safety plan metrics
  • Responsible for the review, verification, and filing of all food safety monitoring documents
  • Assist the Director of Food Safety in the development, implementation, and validation of food safety plans and programs
  • Communicate and takes corrective action on all non-compliant employee observations
  • Maintain HACCP and other food safety education as required to act as a back-up to the SQF Practitioner
  • Act as a back-up to the Food Safety Coordinator for Labeling and Product Specification development and maintenance

Quality:

  • Oversee inspections of all inbound produce loads from suppliers and inner-company transfers ensuring all products are inspected in accordance with USDA and internal standards.
  • Oversee the continuous product inspections of inventories to always ensure products available for distribution meet company standards.
  • Oversee the quality of finished product output in Prepared Foods.
  • Support the use of the QC App, Lot Traceability, and Produce Pro warehouse management system
  • Walk the warehouse and cold rooms daily directing and verifying the inspection of all inventories in the facility.
  • Partner with Sales to ensure all customer quality expectations are met.
  • Work closely with Procurement, QA, and Operations to communicate needs and opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with Rework and Procurement teams to ensure products are reworked in an effective and timely manner
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute reports on Quality and Food Safety metrics and trends
  • Receive, log, and investigate root cause of all product quality complaints. Take corrective actions to eliminate the continuation of the quality issue. Develops and implements preventive actions to
  • eliminate repeating quality issue

Audits

  • Participate in all 3rd party and customer Food Safety and Quality audits
  • Perform monthly internal Food Safety, cGMP, Food Defense, and other audits as required with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Complete corrective and preventive actions on all audit deficiencies including logging corrective actions, adjusting programs, training, and inputting maintenance orders as required.

Training and Development

  • Maintain and deliver product quality training to all employees as required
  • Manage and accomplish all food safety training standards for all relevant staff
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff, including setting performance standards and managing and evaluating performance

What we look for...

  • Bachelor of Science preferred with 3+ years produce industry experience, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
  • Ability to multi task and plan and carry out projects with well-defined goals and outcomes
  • Possess excellent communication and relationship building skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced understanding of how to lead and develop teams by building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
  • Good judgment and the awareness of financial impact of decisions
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity and perform work at a level which promotes a positive image of Pacific Coast Fruit Company within the organization and the marketplace
  • As a leader, model and communicate the Company's Vision, Mission, & Values
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, with emphasis in Excel
