Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY: The Automation Technician will be responsible for assisting the farming team in scoping, installing, programming,  maintaining, and troubleshooting the automated irrigation systems. The technician is also responsible for routinely auditing and  monitoring the systems and assisting with the evaluation of new technology and hardware. 
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Automation Technician will directly report to and work under the supervision of the Operations  Director and alongside the Farm Area Directors. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Performing routine inspections of the automated irrigation systems across the company (From Marysville to Maricopa).
  • Performing routine audits and updates of the ArcGIS maps. 
  • Training & monitoring routine operation of the automation systems. 
  • Work with management to design, review, install, and test automation systems.  
  • Inspect and perform simple repairs to irrigation systems, filter stations, and automation systems. 
  • Check and report acid, sulfur, fertilizer tank levels. 
  • Routinely sample pH & EC of irrigation water to test the calibration of sensors. 
  • Assist in the programming and monitoring of advanced irrigation/fertility automation systems. 
  • Routinely meet with irrigators, managers, and directors to review weekly operation issues and reach solutions. 
  • Travel daily and work on the road across the company 
  • All other tasks, projects, duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the Company and/or the Operations Director.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Experience with irrigation systems design and/or automated systems; 
  • Experience with commercial citrus/kiwi production; 
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental resources, water resources, or agricultural field of study, or equivalent experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software, techniques, and functionalities quickly and efficiently; 
  • Intermediate computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite with heavy emphasis in Excel and ARC-GIS; 
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish, preferred 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: 
  • Detailed understanding of commercial irrigation components 
  • Proficiency in app-based navigation and programs; 
  • Proficiency/comfortability of ATV operation, loading and unloading; 
  • Intermediate skill in Microsoft Excel; 
  • Intermediate skill in Microsoft Office; 
  • Proficiency in app-based navigation and programs; 
  • Attention to detail and a deep understanding of methods to ensure data integrity; 
  • Effective reporting and communication skills; and 
  • Ability to prioritize, adapt and multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment.
