JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Warehousing will be responsible for overseeing multi-site shipping and warehousing operations for all Sun Pacific enterprises in California. The initial focus of this role will be to assist and facilitate an Enterprise Software transition to ensure all production and warehouse operations teams are following best practices and system protocols. After the software transition is complete (estimated 4 – 6 months,) the Director of Warehousing will focus on implementing a Warehouse Management System (WMS) across several of the Sun Pacific distribution warehouses. This position will oversee and manage the supervisory staff of all warehouse and shipping locations within the company, ensuring industry leading customer service, inventory accuracy and warehouse productivity through establishing and managing key metrics. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization with a focus on providing critical information to the Sales and Operations management groups.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Plant Manager will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all warehouse locations and shipping personnel at 7 locations throughout California’s Central Valley;
- Be the key driver in implementing a new WMS systems at multiple shipping warehouses;
- Assist with strategic and operational planning;
- Assist with the leadership of the warehouse and shipping department staff to ensure proper product rotation, accurate inventories and superior customer service;
- Develop and manage key metrics to track truck wait time performance, inventory rotation and accuracy, and team member productivity with focus on continuous improvement methods;
- Facilitate effective communication with truck drivers, brokers, inspectors, buyers and internal departments; ∙ Optimize all pack house operations to ensure effective production while maintaining a safe work environment for all employees;
- Assist with annual operational and capital budgeting;
- Champion positive and effective employee relations, employee safety, and food safety compliance to reduce the risk of product loss;
- Support and coordinate training programs for the development of all employees;
- Assist in the training, mentoring and evaluation of employee performance to continually improve operational performance and standards;
- Ensure employees are aware of and follow all company policies, practices and procedures;
- Lead compliance efforts with all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations from OSHA, EPA, USDA, and FDA; and,
- Perform all other duties as assigned by company management.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in warehousing operations, preferably in perishable food products;
- Bachelors degree in an applicable area of study or equivalent work experience; and,
- Possession of a CDL and an acceptable driving record insurable by the company’s insurance provider.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Strong systems aptitude and experience with ERP (Famous Software preferred) and WMS Systems;
- Experience in implementing WMS roll-out activities and start-ups;
- Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form across all levels of the organization;
- Proficient with programs in the MS Office suite with particular skill in Excel;
- Knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP, GMPs, and Organic Standards;
- Proficiency in developing and managing operational budgets and effectively identifying cost savings opportunities;
- Ability to train, develop, lead and motivate staff for consistent quality and productivity;
- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities projects and tasks;
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, work in close proximity to moving equipment, bend stoop, kneel and perform repetitive motion as required to perform the essential duties of the job for long periods at a time; and,
- Ability to work extensive hours, second shift (when necessary), weekends, and to be very flexible to compliment seasonal operations and demands of the job to continue the Company’s success.
